領養華童獻藝 耆老開心
皇后區法拉盛友聯廣場醫護中心(Union Plaza Nursing Home)18日舉辦一場別開生面的新春聯歡活動,長島領養兒童家庭中文學校校長郭曼麗安排一系列中國舞蹈、領養兒童表演以及英文歌唱等節目,台下的耆老們拍手叫好,提前過一個溫馨的農曆新年。
郭曼麗表示,該中心日前主動與她聯繫並說「很多韓國團體來這裡表演,但是幾乎沒有中國團體過來」,她便邀請領養家庭與其四歲多的領養華童杜新娥(Adelie Barbeara)一起大跳中國扇子舞,並用手語齊聲高唱「當我們同在一起」,引起不少耆老們的共鳴,邊拍手邊跟著哼。
華童杜新娥的領養母親鮑比拉(Cathryn Barbeara)表示,來自中國江西的杜新娥不僅聰明可愛,也十分乖巧懂事,為了讓她了解自己的華人血統,全家兩年前便參加了領養家庭中文學校課程,不僅學中文,同時學習中國文化。鮑比拉夫婦也正在辦理領養另一名華童的手續,期盼為杜新娥找一位妹妹作伴。
目前在陸軍單位服務的史瓦茲(Warren Schwartz)昨日則穿著唐裝帶來歌唱表演,他說這是第一次參加農曆新年的活動,見到這些耆老們展開的笑顏,讓他覺得有趣又有意義。

Union Plaza Nursing Home in Flushing, Queens hosted a spectacular Chinese New Year gathering on Jan. 18th. Long Island Families with children from China Chinese school principals Guo Man-Li arranged Chinese dances, FCC family singing Chinese songs, and English songs singing programs, the elderly applauded and celebrated in advance for Lunar New Year.
Guoman Li said the center recently took the initiative to contact her and said, "A lot of Korean groups have come here for performances, but few Chinese groups come," She invited a FCC family –four-year-old Du Xin-er (Adelie Barbeara) and her parents to perform the Chinese fan dance, and sang with sign language "When We're Together". A lot of seniors were clapping while sang along.

Du Xin-er’s mother- Cathryn Barbeara, said Du from China's Jiangxi Province is not only clever and cute, but also very sweet. In order to let her keep her Chinese heritage, the family started leaning Chinese language and Chinese culture two years ago with Man-Li. Mr. and Mrs. Barbeara are in the process of adopting another Chinese child expecting to find a sister for Du Xin-er.
